Kenya’s largest Sugar Company, Mumias Sugar has today announced the Title Sponsorship of the annual Kenya Music Festivals finals to be held at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, from August 6th to 15th. The announcement took place at the Ministry of Education offices at Jogoo House and was presided over by Education Minister Prof Sam Ongeri.

Organized by an Executive Committee within the Ministry of Education, the festival brings together an average of over 85,000 odd performers and producers over a 10 day period, arguably making it the largest event of its kind in the World. This year, it will embrace the theme Embracing Vision 2030 through the Kenya Music Festival.
Announcing the sponsorship, Dr. Evans Kidero, Mumias Sugar Company’s Managing Director said, “We acknowledge that wholesome productive youth are those positively engaged in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. Our main aim is to identify and promote local talent amongst the students; as a result, tackle unemployment and poverty long term”.
“The Music Festivals also falls into our overall brand strategy as it builds a strong brand sense of ownership in the minds and hearts of the youth through co-curricular activities that are naturally embraced with great enthusiasm and competitiveness.”
The six million exclusive Title Sponsorship will involve; Multimedia Awareness & Publicity of the event, motivational awards including challenge trophies to best performers in select categories and Certificates of Participation and Merit to all students at the National Final; Pre Event Music Workshop, administrative and logistical support as well as lunch to all the students on the Gala Day at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology
“Music is a powerful communication and advocacy tool and over time, the Festival has become a powerful catalyst media for raising awareness for socio-cultural and political integration of our society with the youth as centre stage” added Dr. Kidero.
First held in 1927, the Festival prides itself with a rich heritage. It has been held consistently over the years, and has evolved to feature not only contemporary issues around the world but also our African cultural values and ideals, boasting over 600 categories.
